Case Study Smartcast Equipment

Introduction Smartcast equipment is an agency that sells used heavy equipment. They have equipment like excavators, Mini Excavators, Skid Steers and many more.   UX (User Experience)

Before I started to do the interface design of the website, I had to understand the user first, like what they want to see on the website or which section of the website needs to be improved and what are the best things about a product and many more. I asked the agency to do a survey or click the test, and I found out that they already did the survey. So I listened to the phone calls that they had already made and also looked at the click test and heat map and I found out they wanted to see more pictures and videos of the product. It is like when you go to buy a car, you don’t look at the pics, you go there and test it and see if it is good to ride or not. After that, I looked at the website and I already knew why the user wanted to see more photos and videos.

The goals for this redesign are to
  • Improved typography and navigation bar of the website.

  • Make it more user-friendly and accessible to all users

  • Update the visuals and experience through competitive analysis

  • Fasting loading elements ( optimize pics and videos)

  • A more direct approach for the reader to read and get information from the website.

  • Improve Information architecture
Target Audience Their primary audience is people who have companies between the age of 40 – 70 and Secondary audiences are people who work in this industry and third-party organizations. Role & Responsibilities

My role in this was as the main designer, to create something new that could increase the usage of the website. Because of that, I started to do research into direct competitor agencies, then came up with a new idea. Then I created wireframes to showcase blueprints and mock-ups of what the end product would look like. I also took inspiration from Behance and other various websites which have many artists who created their iteration of what a new platform would look like. Overall, the angles and shapes which I used on the website all come from the signs of construction. I was inspired by that, and for the color of the website, I matched the logo and for typography, I used Roboto because it is, popular font for construction equipment.

After analyzing the website and competitors, there were some unique discrepancies that propelled the other companies forward. This difference makes me realize that the website needs some improvement. Firstly, the layout of the website needs to change. Second, there is not much content on the homepage of the website, it is all repetition and also the content on the website needs to be improved. Fourth, there are not many good quality pictures and video of the company in which users can not trust the company which doesn’t have much information on the site. Fifth, the website needs to be updated. I attempted to integrate these improvements into the Smartcast website and even came out with a new idea which makes it very unique, eye-catching and easy to read and see. Most important is to make a user-friendly website.   The Outcome & Final Product Overall, the original Smartcast was functional in terms of simply accessing users. I wanted to increase their use by adding more pages on the navigation bar and also replacing angels and shapes and video with a pic which did not position well on the website and, most importantly, updating the content of the website. With some assistance from other designers, I practiced and utilized a more effective grid system in order to space elements out more evenly. Overall, as a user, they are able to get information from the website.

Sketch and Mockups:

UI Kit:

For the UI Kit , I came up with the new idea of matching the color of logos with the website itself, and also I also decided to use shapes and angles for the website because it related to construction. I use the Roboto font because it is trending in the construction industry.

Mockup:

For mock-ups , I came up with new ideas like making the website more dynamic, adding shapes and animation and also making it clean and well organized. The main focus of this website is to build a user-friendly layout and also make it easy to use and read.
